The author deals with the problem of villagers’ childhood in Stavropol and Terek regions in the second half of XIX - the beginning of XX centuries. The correlation between interfamily hierarchy and generations’ relationship has been found out by the author. Educational practices and their factors are analyzed. This article analyzes the concept of "national character" in the works of Russian philosophers of the first half of the twentieth century. The author concludes that the Russian thinkers use different methods of studying the topic. Some of them define the main features of Russian national character by analyzing folk tales; others turn to the history of the nation, its specific facts and events analyzing the behavior of the Russian people in a given situation. But all of them are inclined to conclude that the Russian nation is especially marked by God and fulfills its mission.
