HISTORY AND ARCHAEOLOGY
It is stated in the article that during the war when the military actions last a lengthy period of time both belligerent parties start to pay special attention to propaganda both inside and outside the country. They mobilize all their resources for that purpose. Russian propaganda turned out practically ineffective, which was caused by a low educational level of the majority of the population of the Empire.
The paper deals with an episode of the 1814 campaign in France - the sojourn of Allied troops in Moret-sur-Loing. In this city there were Cossacks besides the Austrians in February 1814. The image of the Cossack formed in the early twentieth century by a local historian G. Lioret is borrowed uncritically by the later historiography, which requires comments and clarifications.
The article deals with problem of librarianship in 1930-th. Political changes influenced library construction. In this period the centralization of libraries' management, which had been started in the 1920-s, was completed due to the efforts of the authorities. Analysis of Stavropol experience showed that at local levels libraries remained neglected by the authorities, which caused deficiencies in logistics and staff. The regional authorities took into account multi-ethnic composition of the population in their cultural policy; therefore, they prepared national staff for libraries.
The given material examines the prospects of the development of the farming in Stavropol region in the early 20th century. The authors come to the conclusion that under the conditions of the demographic boom and the extensive forms of farming inherent in peasants the land problem in the region was becoming acute. This factor led to the rise in the land rent in the region.

The article examines the process of formation and evolution of Ukrainian classical universities symbols and emblems in the Soviet period. It has been shown that symbols and emblems which indicated state status of universities predominated over other symbols. At he same time, there were periods when corporate symbols were developed. Symbols are considered as an indicator of university community identity.
