THE RELATIONSHIP OF ART AND RELIGION AMONG THE PEOPLES OF THE NORTH CAUCASUS

Abstract

The problem of relationship between religion and culture is discussed in the paper. The author reveals the significant role of Islam in the development of spiritual culture of mankind in general, and in the ethnic culture history of peoples of the North Caucasus in particular. The specific forms of art which are culture inherent in the Muslim countries of the East spread along with the process of Islamization in the North Caucasus. Despite the religious ban in the past, folk music, folklore, architecture, and various kinds of decorative art, which reflected the best aspirations of the people, its national character, high artistic talent, have developed significantly in the North Caucasus.
