В статье анализируется комплекс проблем в контексте развития института королевской власти у англосаксов. Вопрос о времени и роли королевской власти в становлении государства является дискуссионным. Автор обращает внимание то, что при наличии разногласий в трудах англо-американских медиевистов, они единодушны в том, что влияние короны на формирование многих сторон социально-экономической и политической жизни раннесредневековой Англии оказалось решающим.

In the article a complex of problems in context of royalty development is considered. The issue of time of emergence and the role of regal power in state genesis is debatable. The author pays attention to differences of opinion among Anglo-American medievalists.Nevertheless, they unanimously agree about decisive influence of the Crown on many aspects of social-economic and political life of Early Medieval England.
