<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The article deals with transformation of Scottish national identity in the context of Scottish participation in the development of the British Empire. The author refers to numerous statistical and narrative sources to demonstrate the practices and mechanisms of Anglo-Scottish emperial unification. It is claimed that Scottish colonial success can be considered the main driving force in the national integration and shaping Scottish national identity. The author concludes that in pre-1914 period Scottish nationalism was expressed in the form of cooperation between Scottish and English merchants, soldiers and doctors who had created the united British Empire.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>Британская империя</kwd><kwd>Шотландский национализм</kwd><kwd>идентичность</kwd><kwd>колониализм</kwd><kwd>шотландская модернизация</kwd><kwd>Дариенская схема</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>the British Empire</kwd><kwd>Scottish nationalism</kwd><kwd>identity</kwd><kwd>colonialism</kwd><kwd>Scottish modernization</kwd><kwd>Darien scheme</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Ascherson N.
