В статье анализируются исторические условия и процесс создания Красного Креста в США. Хронологические рамки охватывают начальный этап существования общества. Освещаются гуманитарные акции американского Красного Креста в условиях стихийных бедствий. В центре внимания авторов - деятельность Клары Бартон, являвшейся инициатором, создателем и руководителем общества в рассматриваемый период.

The article deals with the historical background and process of formation of Red Cross in the USA. Chronologically it covers the initial stage of the society's history. Humanitarian field operations of American Red Cross under conditions of natural disasters are examined. The authors focus their attention on the activities of Clara Barton, who was the founder and leader of the society throughout given period of time.
