В статье на основе данных «Кодекса Феодосия» и сочинений позднеримских историков рассматриваются особенности компетенции comes sacrarum largitionum - руководителя центрального финансового ведомства в Поздней Римской империи. Источниковой базой работы является десятый титул первой книги «Кодекса Феодосия», который содержит ряд императорских эдиктов, дающих представление о правах и обязанностях руководителя казны, его положении в системе позднеримской вертикали власти. Помимо обязанностей, непосредственно связанных с финансами, comes sacrarum largitionum был наделен целым рядом обязанностей контрольно-надзорного характера, мог вмешиваться в процесс судопроизводства. Глава финансового ведомства обладал правом применения насилия и принуждения к любому должностному лицу, если это было необходимо в целях обеспечения финансовой и фискальной дисциплины.
